Strengthening Multiparty Democracy in Burkina Faso
DIPD partners with Centre pour la Gourvernance Démocratique (CGD) on stregthening intra- and inter-party dialogue through dialogue platforms.
DIPD is working together with the Centre for Democratic Governance (CGD) to provide a platform for the 14 national political parties represented in the national assembly, creating a space for the parties to interact and share their views on the causes of national issues and possible consensual solutions. This has resulted in 25 dialogue platforms.
What we have achieved so far
The aim is to foster intra-party, inter-party, and multi-actor dialogue. In working with this goal members from all 14 parties in Burkina Faso were on a study tour in Denmark in 2018. The tour resulted in a “Copenhagen Declaration”, where all political parties agreed to participate in a joint project focusing on developing the capacity of political parties for better representation of women and young people and improve the parties’ communication with the public and voters.
These advocacy sessions are believed to have impacted on President Kaboré’s ongoing demands to favour electoral lists respecting a gender quota of 30 %.
