DIPD Statement

DIPD is deeply concerned by the events unfolding in Myanmar. We support the right of the people of Myanmar to exercise their political and civil rights, including the right to assemble peacefully. The outcomes of the democratic process should be respected, and the country’s international human rights obligations should be honoured.

The current democratic crisis can only be averted through peaceful and inclusive dialogue.

We will continue to support pro-democracy actors in Myanmar and stand ready to facilitate a multi-stakeholder dialogue to diffuse the current political situation and resume the democratic process.
