Dialogue and conflict resolution course

Courses in dialogue and conflict resolution can inspire politicians in new democracies to solve problems and grow stronger democratic structures.

Dialogue and Conflict Resolution

Cross-party dialogue - and a democratic dialogue within a party - do not always have good conditions in new democracies. Thats why DIPD has developed a course in dialogue and conflict resolution. The training course has already taken place several times: in Myanmar 2019 and in Tanzania in 2020. So far with the participation of politicians from Myanmar, Nepal, Kenya, Tanzania, Burkina Faso, Uganda, Rwanda, South Africa and Burundi.

The course gives the political parties stronger democratic structures. Both in the form of concrete tools and in the form of a mindset, where the value of dialogue between the parties becomes clearer.

One thing that inspired me is how these tools that we learned can solve a lot of problems and issues that happen in our political parties

The training course focuses on promoting a political debate culture which - despite disagreements - is characterized by dialogue and a focus on resolving conflicts. In addition to the participants acquiring tools for conflict resolution during the course, the course also develops action plans tailored to the countries and parties where the partners work. Afterwards the Danish political parties and DIPD followed up upon how the action plans are implemented.
