The Conservative People’s Party (Det Konservative Folkeparti) was founded in 1916 based on its predecessor, Højre (The Right), but also on the Free Conservatives and a moderate faction of the Liberal Party (Venstre).

The party's values are based on the belief in freedom under responsibility. In conservatism, human rights are central. The freedom of the individual to shape his or her own life in respect of the right of others to do the same. Responsibility for the community means showing compassion and social commitment to those who are unable to fend for themselves and to those whose freedom has been violated or threatened.

The Conservative People’s Party has traditionally been a part of most right-wing governments in Denmark and is currently in opposition.
