Egyptian Delegation to Observe Danish Elections

The politicians represent social democratic, liberal and Islamic parties and they arrive 11 September for a diverse and busy week-long programme. Bjørn Førde, Director of Danish Institute for Parties and Democracy (DIPD) says:

“It is with great pleasure that we welcome the Egyptian delegation. The purpose of this trip is not to convince the our guests of how wonderful the Danish democracy is but we believe that the programme for the visit, which includes a seminar on the Danish democracy, local visits with Danish political parties and last but not least a Lessons Learned discussion, will provide the delegates with new knowledge and experience as well as an insight into the workings of our democracy – all something which will benefit the democracy in Egypt”.

The first two days of the visit, the delegates participate in seminars on the Danish political system and the political parties in Denmark, discussions and Q&A sessions as well as an exclusive tour of the Danish parliament Folketinget.

Then, the Egyptian delegates visit a wide range of Danish political parties locally and join them in community activities and events as the Danish election campaign enters its final days. The delegates will then of course observe the general voting on Election Day 15 September as well as the following ballot count.

Before leaving, the Egyptian politicians participate in a Lessons Learned seminar where they discuss and reflect upon their experiences with the Danish elections.

The delegation is invited by DIPD in cooperation with the Danish Egyptian Dialogue Institute (DEDI) in Cairo. DIPD was established by the Danish Parliament by law on 26 May 2010. The mandate of the institute is to strengthen the development of political parties and multiparty systems in developing countries, for example through the Danish political parties.
