The Party internationals are networks of like-minded political parties from around the world united by shared ideological foundations. These networks provide a platform for peer learning, exchange of views of matters of policy and promotion of their respective ideologies around the globe.
The four main party internationals are:
|Centrist Democrat International
The Centrist Democrat International (CDI), previously known as the Christian Democrat International and the Christian Democrat and People’s Parties International, is a group of primarily centrist political parties dedicated to the promotion of Christian democracy. CDI has members from around the globe, though primarily Europe and Latin America. Youth of the Centrist Democrat International is the affiliated youth organisation of CDI.
|International Democrat Union
The International Democrat Union (IDU) is a working association of over 80 Conservative, Christian Democrat and like-minded political parties of the centre and centre right. Formed in 1983, the IDU provides a forum in which Parties holding similar beliefs can come together and exchange views on matters of policy and organisational interest as well as promote democracy and centre-right policies around the globe. Organisations affiliated with IDU are International Young Democrat Union (IYDU) and International Women’s Democrat Union (IWDU) as well as a wide range of regional unions as the Union of Latin America Parties (UPLA), Asian Pacific Democrat Union (APDU), Caribbean Democrat Union (CDU), Democrat Union of Africa/ African Dialogue Group (DUA, European Democrat Union (EDU) and European People’s Party (EPP).
Liberal International (LI) is the world federation of liberal and progressive democratic political parties. LI was founded in 1947 to strengthen liberal protection from totalitarianism, fascism and communism. It has since become a network for promoting liberalism, individual freedom, human rights, the rule of law, tolerance, equality of opportunity, social justice, free trade and a market economy. LI include more than 50 political party members, including the the Danish Social-Liberal Party (Radikale Venstre) and the Liberal Party of Denmark (Venstre). Affiliated with LI are the International Federation of Liberal Youth (IFLY), International Network of Liberal Women (INLW), and the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE).
The Socialist International (SI) is an organisation of social democratic, socialist and labour parties. According to the Declaration of Principles, member parties are united by their common pursuit of freedom, social justice and solidarity. SI, whose origins go back to the early international organisations of the labour movement, has existed in its present form since 1951. It currently brings together 161 political parties and organisations from all continents, including the Danish Social Democrats. Fraternal organisations include the International Union of Socialist Youth (IUSY) and Socialist International Women (SIW)
